Rules designed to reduce traffic pollution will mean that the lorries not meeting stringent emission quotas will pay 20% more HGV levy.
The new rules, which come into force on 1 February 2019, are designed to encourage HGV hauliers to switch to cleaner vehicles.
Driver and Vehicle Services Agency (DVSA) says that less polluting Euro VI lorries will enjoy a 10% reduction in their levy to encourage them to help lower road pollution, while all other vehicles will be meted with the increase.
According to DVSA, road vehicle pollution accounts for 20% of all air pollution, hence the tough measures.
