We’re proud to announce that one of our drivers, Paul Le Marechal, has been given a prestigious award recognising his bravery when dealing with a potentially lethal motorway collision.
Paul, who has been a Herd driver for more than two years, was among those decorated at the Chief Constable’s Awards, which highlight “courageous, caring, excellent and diligent acts by law enforcement officials, workers and members of the general public.”
Along with Lee Watts, Paul helped two victims, one of who was 11-years old, get clear of a burning vehicle following a head-on collision in August 2018. With the vehicle on fire and gasoline leaking, the danger on the Somerset road was severe. Because of their courage, both Lee and Paul were Royal Humane Society (RHS) Testimonial on Vellum - the highest honour bestowed by the RHS.
“It was a room filled with extraordinary individuals. I’m very humbled and privileged to have listened to the tales. These individuals went above and past and the awards present an essential alternative to replicate and rejoice,” says Police Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens.
The award is a small gesture to acknowledge a life-changing act of bravery and we’re incredibly proud to name Paul as one of our drivers.
